January 9, 1990. At the time, I had no idea this would turn out to be one of the best days of my life.
I was working in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, and had just been sent on a long-term training assignment to a plant in Mesa, Arizona. (Said plant is now literally a parking lot.)
For those not familiar with the making of integrated circuits, it happens in a “clean room” (microscopic particles can render circuits non-functional). Part of the process requires the worker bees to be clothed from head to toes in a “bunny suit,” a very non-fashionable garment that leaves only your eyes exposed.
Thirty years ago to the day, I was standing in front of a piece of equipment when one of the area trainers approached me.
All I could see were her eyes. These incredible blue eyes.
She had issues with me messing with her machine. I know she said something a little smart-assey, but I can’t recall exactly what. It was hard to get past those eyes.
Being about two years post divorce, the last thing I was interested in was a relationship.
But those eyes.
As I got to know her over the following weeks, I swiftly found there was a lot more to her than her eyes. She was smart, funny, and had a heart the size of the state I’d left–Texas.
Several months later, despite the fact that neither of use was remotely interested in a serious relationship, she packed her belongings into a U-Haul which we drove back to Texas to begin our life together.
Every day since then I count my blessings. Thirty years together, two incredible children, and three decades of memories.
Francy, you complete me. I adore you. The last thirty years have been amazing, I can’t wait for the rest of our lives together. Thank you, for everything.
