At least once a day, I go for a walk on the beach. Personally, I’ve found nothing better for my head. Rain or shine, hot or cold. Whether to mediate, cogitate, or just wander aimlessly, the beach calls me.
Sometimes there are deep thoughts, sometimes there are no thoughts. While I generally try to avoid people on my beach excursions, the occasional encounter comes with whiling away the hours on a public beach.
The other day was just such a random encounter.
A young couple and their five-ish-year-old daughter walked onto the beach. The girl was carrying a stick that was longer than she was tall.
As we approached, the girl spoke first:
Her: (proudly holding up the stick) Look!
Me: That’s a really cool stick!
Her: It’s not a stick, it’s a lightsaber!
Me: May the Force be with you.
Her: Always!
She skips off, mom is laughing, dad says, “careful, you can put an eye out with that lightsaber.”
We all chuckle, I tell complete strangers that I think their daughter is adorable, they don’t think I’m a child molester.
The girl now appears to be battling a sea monster.
I’m going to keep walking down the beach, looking for a lightsaber.
